Peppermint Oreo Truffles Recipe (1)

If you like Oreo’s, this recipe is for you. If you don’t like Oreo’s… this recipe is still for you.

It is so easy to make, takes only four ingredients and will be a hit at every family get together this season.

They are so good, people are sure to ask you for the recipe.

The story behind the truffles

These Peppermint Oreo Truffles came to me in the night. Every year my family and I make candies or desserts to bring to our neighbors.

This year, I was anxiously awaiting our candy making day, because I knew we would be making Oreo Truffles (I’ve heard some people call them Moose Berries?).

But I just couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into one of those bad boys. They are seriously so tasty, and so easy to make. But I thought to myself as I was laying in bed one night:

“Why don’t we add candy canes to them?”

Call it a vision, call it luck, but whatever it was, it created these amazingly delicious, Peppermint Oreo Truffles, that are about to rock your world.

How to make peppermint Oreo truffles

Step 1:Separate the Oreo chocolate cookie from the frosting.

Yes… I know this step may seem ridiculous, because you add the cream back in later, but it is a crucial and critical step.

I don’t care what kind of blender you have, they will not blend correctly. It will clump up and leave you with ugly white chunks.

Just turn on that Christmas music, and get into the baking spirit, and separate that cream from the cookie.

Step 2: In a blender or food processor, blend the chocolate cookies (not the frosting) and the candy canes until they are finely chopped and there are no large pieces of Oreo.

I used mini candy canes, but you could also use the peppermint candy rounds. Any hard peppermint candy will work with this recipe.

Step 3: Add the frosting (Oreo filling) and the cream cheese to the blended chocolate cookies, and blend until you get a smooth creamy cookie dough mixture.

I used the blender for this step again.

Blend until there is no more white, and it’s all just dark, chocolatey goodness.

This step was left out of the instructions, but go ahead, grab a spoon, and try the amazingness.

Step 4: Cover a cookie sheet with wax paper or aluminum foil and roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on sheet.

Step 5: Freeze for an hour, then remove from freezer and melt white chocolate.

You may even want to melt your white chocolate, then pull them out of the freezer. They thaw pretty quickly, so this step has to be fast.

Step 6: Dip the truffles into the white chocolate and place on parchment, wax paper, or aluminum foil. Immediately sprinkle with crushed candy cane or holiday sprinkles.

Step 7: Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

How to properly dip your truffles in chocolate

First things first. Your truffles have to be frozen. If they are not frozen, they will be misshaped, and they will fall apart in the warm white chocolate.

Then your white chocolate will have Oreo truffle smears in it. I have learned from personal experience.

Get your white chocolate. I used Hershey’s white chocolate chips, but you could also use a bark.

I microwaved mine for 30 second intervals, stirring each time, until smooth.

Don’t let any moisture get into your melted white chocolate or it will get a weird texture, and won’t work for dipping.

For dipping, one of our tricks is to use a plastic fork and break off the middle tines. Just leaving the two on each end. It kind of looks like a hand doing a rock on sign.

Drop the frozen ball into the white chocolate and then carefully lift out with the fork invention, tapping the side of the bowl to let the excess chocolate drip off.

Set them on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper. Sprinkle on the peppermint candy and let set up.

How do you mix in the cream cheese and frosting? Do you use mixer? Or hand stir?

  2. Cyd says:

Either way is fine. Hand mixer would be easiest. You could add a different attachment to the processor and use that.

  3. Lisa says:

I made these but mine don't look like yours. How do you get the white chocolate so perfect looking?

  4. Joanna says:

I'm wondering the same thing as Lisa with the white chocolate.
